What are considered natural "defects" of leather?

When we talk about "defects" in natural leather, we are referring to marks or irregularities inherent to the skin, which do not affect the product's quality or durability, and which are valued in artisanal leather goods for their authenticity. Some examples include: Scar marks: Small signs of cuts, scratches, or wounds that healed while the animal was alive. They are common and visible as subtle lines or reliefs on the surface. Veins or texture differences: Variations in the grain or softness of the leather, a natural result of the animal's movement and age. Pigmentation spots: Slight changes in tone or color due to the animal's exposure to the sun, insects, or its natural environment. Visible pores or follicles: Authentic leather retains the hair follicle structure, which can make pores visible. Natural wrinkles: Soft folds or more flexible areas, especially in areas where the animal's skin was more mobile (such as the neck or legs).

These characteristics are not signs of low quality, but rather evidence of the use of genuine leather without excessive covering or correction. Unlike industrial or synthetic leather, which is often standardized and covered with plastic layers, natural leather proudly displays its origin.
